William Meisel founded TMA Associates in 1991. Bill writes Speech Strategy News and is available for consulting assignments. A version of Speech Strategy News (early versions were entitled Speech Recognition Update and Telephone Strategy News) has been published since 1993, always as a paid-subscription newsletter with no ads. Through consulting assignments, he has aided many firms, from large to small, with strategies in leveraging speech technologies and building applications and services.
Bill is also co-organizer of the Voice Search Conference with AVIOS (www.voicesearchconference.com), and edited a book, VUI Visions, published in 2006. In the 1980s, he founded and ran a speech recognition technology company, after managing the Computer Science Division of a defense engineering firm. Meisel began his career as a professor at USC and wrote the first textbook on computer pattern recognition (Computer-Oriented Approaches to Pattern Recognition, Academic Press); he holds a B.S. in Engineering from Caltech and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from USC.
